Overview
Founded in 2011 by Volunteers who served in Iran, the Peace Corps Iran Association seeks to further a better understanding between Americans and Iranians. We also seek to preserve the legacy of the Peace Corps in Iran. We believe 1748 Volunteers served in Iran between 1962 and 1976. At present we have identified 1525 Volunteers, 68 staff members, and 68 trainers. We also know of 228 Volunteers who have died.
PCIA has organized biennial conferences and reunions: 2011 in Portland, OR, 2013 in Boston, 2015 in Austin, TX, 2017 in Annapolis, and 2019 in San Diego. We publish a newsletter, the KhabarNameh, twice each year and two monthly e-newsletters, From the Field and Advocacy Bulletin.
At the 2011 reunion and conference, those present recommended a more formal organization. A core committee developed a proposal to incorporate in Oregon, which was approved March 19, 2012. Our application as a nonprofit was approved by the IRS August 15, 2013. We are recognized as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit (#45-4989757) and contributions are considered deductible by the IRS.
